July 3rd- RPSA Golden Spike Regatta
I wanted to invite you to a casual regatta RPSA will be hosting on July 3rd to celebrate the Canadian Naval Centennial. This will be a fantastic occasion to get your feet wet if you haven’t had a chance to get on the water yet this season, or to show off your skills if you’ve been practicing! This is a fun event focusing more on celebrating the fine sport of sailing than competition. There will be coaches on the water as well, so this can also be an excellent opportunity to brush up on your skills in a controlled environment.
The day will kick-off at 11:00am so that we have plenty of time to organize boats, rig and get out on the water. Races will start at 12:00pm and run until 3:00 or 4:00pm depending on the wind. The Orane will be on the water as the Committee Boat and there will be a fair-sized course set up near the pier so that we can show off the boats during the Golden Spike Celebrations. We’ll finish off the day with a hotdogs-and-hamburgers style BBQ and some prizes. Feel free to bring something else to fry up if you are a vegetarian or have other preferences.
Also, please bring your family /friends! At least one person in the boat has to have their White Sail III, but otherwise this event is open for all sailors at all levels!
What better way to celebrate Golden Spike Days and the Navy Centennial than with sailing and a good old fashioned BBQ? This should be a lot of fun and I look forward to seeing you all on the water on July 3rd. (Mark it on your calendars!)
PS- Want to get in a little more practice this season? Not sure what a regatta is like? Sebastian Fritz gives basic racing lessons on Tuesday evenings starting at 5:30pm. These lessons are free for members or $5 to drop in. The only prereq is White Sail III. Lots of fun and a great way to meet other sailors!
Kindly,
Samantha Taylor
